Sunday, December 3 – First Sunday of Advent

If we are honest, there’s a little bit of Scrooge in each of us. Each of us navigating our lives in a world where our friends can disappoint, our own good intentions can let us down and sooner or later our bodies give out. In a world like this, our heart can grow as cold as a lump of coal. What’s a person to do?

Perhaps, we could use a little help experiencing the kind of Christmas God desires for us. A Christmas built on the hope of God’s presence instead of the despair of self-reliance. A place where God surveys our pretensions, our fancied greatness, our perceived moral, religious, cultural, intellectual adequacies in order to humble us and expose our weakness, futility and sin. All to exalt God as the only savior.

During Advent, we’ll look at how the prophet Isaiah shows us more of God and ourselves than we’ve seen before—that we may know what it means to be saved by a God who can turn our Bah Humbug into a Hallelujah.

Your Pastor,
Rob Hock
