Parent’s Day Out

Parent’s Day Out provides an opportunity for parents to complete errands, schedule doctor appointments and pursue recreational activities. PDO meets two days a week between August and May and one day a week during the summer months. The program is open to everyone in the community regardless of race, creed or religious beliefs.

What is the cost of PDO?

Parent's Day Out at Southport Presbyterian Church is a non-profit organization. We receive no government funding and must charge enough to remain self-supporting. We make every effort to provide superior, consistent care at affordable prices.

There is a $30 (non-refundable) registration fee per child plus a daily cost of $18 per day for the first child, $16 for the second, $14 for the third. SPCS Students are $10 per 1/2 day.

Extra fees may include:

  • Late pick up
  • Returned check
  • Late payment

You must pay for the day or days for which you have registered, even if your child misses that day.

What does my child do during PDO?

Your child's activities may include some of the following, depending upon his or her age and skill level.

  • Craft time
  • Independent playtime
  • Lunch time
  • Rest or nap time approximately 45 minutes
  • Playground time
  • Gym time
  • Learning God's creation
  • Learning shapes, colors, letters and numbers

The children are assisted with crafts based on their skill level. The younger children require more assistance; therefore we try to keep the teacher/child ratio smaller.

How is my child's age group determined?

PDO follows the Perry Township School System and Southport Presbyterian Christian School birthday cut-off date of July 1. For example, your child must be 2 by July 1 of the current year to be in the Two's class.

What do I bring for my infant?

It is suggested that infants not be breastfed. If they are, they should also take breast milk or formula from a bottle. Since PDO has no means to refrigerate formula or breast milk, you should pack it in an insulated container with an ice pack.

Cut solid food in small enough pieces to avoid choking.

Bring an adequate amount of diapers for the four hours your infant is at PDO. Please include any ointments or powders used by the infant. A box of diaper wipes is donated at the beginning of the PDO year by each infant parent.

What do I bring for my Toddler?

  • A labeled blanket for quiet time.
  • 2 labeled cups with lids. One should have the lunch drink in it.
  • 2 or more diapers and/or training pants.
  • An extra seasonal outfit.
  • Lunch - finger foods or foods that a child can feed him or herself.
  • A "binky" labeled with name.

The children have outside recreation unless the temperature is below 32 degrees or it is raining. Please dress them appropriately and apply sunscreen prior to coming to PDO if indicated.

A smile, a hug and a quick goodbye, helps not only your child, but also others to have a quieter & easier separation from the parents.

What do I bring for my Two's?

  • 2 or more diapers or training pants.
  • An extra seasonal outfit.
  • A sack lunch with finger foods so child can feed him or herself.
  • A "comfort" item for quiet time, if needed.
  • A package of diaper wipes.

A smile, a hug and a quick goodbye, helps not only your child, but also others to have a quieter & easier separation from the parents.

What about ages 3 to 5?

This age does not nap, and only requires that you bring a non-perishable sack lunch and beverage. The child should be potty trained, but an extra change of clothing would be a help in case of an accident during potty time.

As with all age groups, the children will be taken outside to play if the weather permits. You may wish to include a coat or sweater should the temperature drop during the day. Please sunscreen your child before bringing them to PDO.
