International Missions
Missions and Missionaries SPC supports around the world:
The following PC(USA) missionaries/missions causes are ministries that we have agreed to continue to support in 2011 as part of the dismissal settlement between SPC and PC(USA). The funds were prepaid in December 2010.
Art Beals is appointed as PC(USA) “regional liaison” with his area of focus being on Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and Turkey. He will facilitate support for partner programs, relationships, and activities, and serve as an implementer of regional strategies. He will also have responsibilities involving communications, mentoring, and missiological reflection.
Cairo Theological Seminary provides pastoral training and theological education to equip church leaders in Egypt and the Middle East.
Colombia Theological Seminary - This Presbyterian Seminary is located in Bogota, Colombia. It is providing pastoral training and education to equip leaders of its churches.
Guatemala Theological Seminary - The Evangelical Presbyterian Seminary in San Felipe, Guatemala offers Christian education to approximately 250 students. They are being prepared to serve as elders, deacons, and pastors in the local churches in Guatemala.
John and Gwen Haspels - Gwen is a nurse and works through Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), and John works with a multi-phase project that includes development and evangelism.
Iranian Christian Survivors’ Assistance - At least four leaders of Christian Churches in Iran were victims of apparent assassination several years ago. The families of these men have suffered not only loss of loved ones, but have also lost primary financial support. This project helps provide for these families so they may overcome their most basic financial difficulties.
Rev. Alice Winters is Professor of Bible at the Seminario Teologico Presbyteriano Reformado in Colombia, South America.
Presbyterian Frontier Missions is a special project of our denomination that provides assistance in identifying and reaching the unchurched people of the world with the Gospel.
Surma Project - The Surma Project is a comprehensive program that includes developing sources of clean drinking water, establishing medical and educational facilities, improving agriculture, and raising cattle. While meeting these pressing needs, the gospel of Jesus Christ will be presented to people who “have not heard or believed.” It is part of the ministry of John and Gwen Haspels among the Surma people of Ethiopia.
Presbytery Causes - We will be supporting the following projects within the bounds of the Presbytery:
- Fabio Socarraz, an evangelical lay person from Cuba, who is a member of Zionsville Presbyterian church, and is involved in our presbytery’s Hispanic Ministry.
- Camp PYOCA – has a long history with our church. It is used annually by our Junior High Camp, and in past years other SPC organizations have used it for retreats. PYOCA is undergoing extensive renovations, and we wish to help.
The following are non PC(USA) missions/missionaries that SPC has chosen to support in 2011
Sue Berleman is with Campus Crusade working with the Executive Ministries in Palm Beach, Florida. She is involved in reaching one of the most neglected segments of society – the business, professional, civic and social leaders – with the gospel.
Kathy Fouts serves on the Missionary & Family Life team with One Mission Society called to encourage, nurture, and strengthen OMS missionaries and families. Kathy coordinates a flow of care, preventative and restorative that is key to the missionary’s personal resilience, team effectiveness and longevity.
Bruce and Kathy McClenehan serve with Campus Crusade for Christ. They both are involved with the JESUS Film Project. Bruce leads the Discipleship Strategies Team and serves on the Leadership Team of the JESUS Film Project. Kathy is a part-time team leader and team administrator of the JESUS Film Missions Teams (JFMT). She is also the full-time Crisis Manager.
Barbara Kilmer currently serves as the Mailroom Coordinator at One Mission Society formerly known as OMS International. She sorts incoming mail and prepares outgoing mail and packages. In Administrative Services she does a variety of work including check requests, processing payment for the utilities for the campus in Greenwood and handling rent payments.
Mark Wittig serves with the Christian Union Sports Ministry in Medellin, Colombia as Executive Director. His ministry involves administration, mentoring staff, budget of the ministry, representing the ministry/sports club among friends, organizations, and others. He evangelizes and disciples persons, whether part of the sports ministry itself and/or related in some way, in their faith in Christ.
Wheeler Ministries is an inner-city shelter for homeless men, combining Bible study and worship services with social outreach in Indianapolis.
Perry Township Religious Education provides weekday education to 4th and 5th graders at the nine elementary schools of Perry Township.
Presbyterians for Renewal is an organization within the PC (USA) that seeks to promote Christian renewal and an evangelical program within our denomination.
Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship - Financing research for the 15,000 unchurched people groups and to provide personnel and programs for engaging in foreign mission with these groups.
Jim Snellink (Youth for Christ) serves as a recruiter for staff for Youth for Christ on Christian College Campuses in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.
Don Fields serves with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship as Campus Staff Members and assist in training new staff and disciple new students at area colleges.
Bob and Maria Hill are with Greater Europe Mission serving as a teacher and Dean of Students at the Greek Bible Institute in Athens.
George and Maria Weber are involved in pastoral, radio, and recording ministries to the Hispanic people of San Antonio, Texas, and throughout the US and Mexico.
Dave and Jean Wunsch serve with Mission Aviation Fellowship. Dave is the Director of Operations Support. He will assist with responsibilities as COO, plus offer support for all the Operations Group Directors. Jean works full time in the Development Department of MAF in the Ministry Partnership as a counselor.
Bill Glass Champions for Life - Former pro football player, Bill Glass, is an evangelist with an evangelism ministry to inmates within prisons.
Overseas Council partners with 107 seminaries, Bible institutes and other strategic ministries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
Overseas Council pursues its mission by: providing scholarship assistance improved and expanded library resources, local and regional ministry training infrastructures and leadership consultations, facilitating funding for construction, training 35,000 students worldwide.
Faith Ministries is a border ministry developed by Deantin Guerra (formerly of Puentes de Cristo) and several PC (USA) churches along the border in Texas and several National Presbyterian Churches of Mexico to share the Good News with Mexican people along the border, construct homes, and provide medical care, clothing and food.
Bethlehem Bible College is located in the West Bank in Bethlehem, Israel. This Palestinian Christian institution seeks to train Christian leadership for the church in Palestine and to reach out with the Good News to the Palestinian and Arab communities.
Mark and Michelle Dinnage transitioned in September 2010 to English ministry on the One Mission Society Taiwan field. During the first two years of ministry, they will mainly focus on language acquisition while visiting Taiwanese churches. After language study, they will partner with a Taiwanese church to do English ministry, which may include teaching conversational English classes, leading English Bible studies, and participating in an English Service.
Hope and New Life Ministry – Greg Wallace is director of this interdenominational Christian ministry to help people who are struggling with homosexuality and sexual addictions. This ministry is located in Lafayette and Indianapolis.
Matt and Aimee Krol are with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). Matt has recently accepted a position with The Seed Company. Their mission is to accelerate Bible Translation to the remaining 2,200 people groups who still don’t have the word of God in their language. Matt will implement a plan to provide internet access to their translators in all of these remote places in the world. Aimee will continue to work with YWAM.
New Hope Great Banquet is a banquet community intentionally designed to break down the walls of racism. The community formed in early 1999 serves to reveal to God’s people what John stated in the book of Revelation 5:9: “… because you [Jesus] were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”
Chuck and Arlene Ashton serves at the International headquarters of One Mission Society formerly OMS International. Chuck is in accounting, and Arlene is the receptionist.
Asian Outreach supports underground Bible schools providing initial training for future house church leaders and missionaries in Uncle L’s House Church Movement.
Don Burdsall serves as Coordinator of Volunteers with the Boaz Project which ministers to orphans in Russia.
Keir and Joanna Thelander and family serve in a medical and teaching ministry at the Bongolo Evangelical Hospital in Gabon, Africa.
Frank and Lyonie Gorsline - Frank is director of International Link with One Mission Society formerly OMS International, which is a short term program sending people of all ages to minister in missions fields around the world.
Dr. Susan Watson is founder and President of John 17 Ministries provides Biblical teaching, restoration counseling, mentorship and leadership training to bring reconciliation, spiritual healing, and spiritual focus to congregations, pastors Christian organizations and missionaries around the world.
Adrienne Moryn - Adrienne with her husband, Maciek, is in Poland with ProEm Ministries and the Tomy Center. She is a missionary teacher and youth center coordinator.
Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic seeks to promote justice through legal representation and education for low-income people as a way to demonstrate Jesus’ love as well as to share the Good News of Jesus. Dee Dee Gowan, a member of SPC, is an attorney who serves with the clinic.
Center Grove Campus Life – A Youth for Christ ministry for teens sharing Jesus with unreached, unchurched youth in the Center Grove area and discipling them into a local church. Wes Coker is the staff person for this ministry.
IU Christian Student Fellowship - A campus ministry at Indiana University in Bloomington seeking to make a difference in students’ lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Students are involved in Bible studies, domestic and international missions trips, volunteering in the Bloomington area, and sharing life together at their campus house.
Adam Pederson, a member of SPC, who is succeeding Jim Snellink in leading Youth for Christ for Southport Middle School.
Voice of the Martyrs which ministers to persecuted Christians around the world.
Faith Ministries Building Supplies is to cover the annual costs for materials to build a house by our Mexico Missions Team each fall.
Evangelical Theological Seminary in Osijek, Croatia train pastors in eastern Europe particularly in the Balkans. The seminary was founded and is led by its president, Dr. Peter Kuzmic, who has spoken here at SPC several times.
Jason and Gail Lantz are serving as teachers at the International Christian School (ICS) in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. Gail is an elementary teacher, and Jason is the PE teacher and Athletic Director. Along with their normal teaching responsibilities, Gail is in charge of the weekly elementary chapel, and Jason leads the high school chapel team praise band, as well as a discipleship group for 7th-9th graders. Their students come from all over the world, and though they attend a Christian school, many students do not come from Christian backgrounds. Many have not been exposed to the Gospel and become Christians while attending ICS. Every day they are blessed with the opportunity to openly share the Gospel with their students, to pray with them and for them, and to teach them what it means to be a follower of Christ.
Life Centers - The mission of Life Centers is to affirm the value of life by providing a network of care to those experiencing pregnancy-related crises and by compassionately presenting biblical truth resulting in changed lives to the glory of God.
