Jim Capps
Senior Pastor

Office:
317.536.7250

Jim Capps was not a stranger to Southport Presbyterian Church when he came as senior pastor in 1995. He had previously served on staff at SPC from 1966 to 1970 as youth director.

Pastor Capps graduated from Moody Bible Institute, Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis) and from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. In 1987 Westminster College in Missouri conferred upon him the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree.

Prior to his return to SPC he served as senior pastor at Bonhomme Presbyterian Church in St. Louis.

Under his leadership, Southport Presbyterian Church has experienced growth in both ministry opportunities, facilities and attendance. In 1997 SPC grew in a big way with the addition of a second campus located on the corner of McFarland Blvd. and Emerson Ave. The McFarland campus houses the worship center, Christian School, gym and ministry offices. The addition of the new facilities made it possible to add several new ministries at both the Southview and McFarland Campuses. Some of these include the Welcome Place Child Care, Sports Ministries, Food Services Ministry, Adult Day Care and Horizons Counseling Center.
